BEST SULPHATE-FREE SHAMPOO
– CURL~COMMAND® SHAMPOO

Fancy sharing the same hair stylist as Lupita Nyong’o, Serena Williams and Solange Knowles? Well now you can (sort of), because afro hair champion and coiffeur to the stars, Vernon François has launched his hair range for those who want to celebrate their curls but not let them get out of control. This curl-energising cocktail of a shampoo contains mirustyle CP, the styling agent that puts the spring factor into curls; fatty acid-rich ubuntu mongongo; strand softening and scalp conditioning coconut oil and moisture hugging baobab oil, as well as vitamins A, D and E. What’s more it’s sulphate-free in order to reduce the threat of a frizz attack, making it the kindest cleanser for textured hair.

This shampoo smelt sweet with a hint of almond. The formula was quite light and felt gentle on my hair whilst washing it.

BEST SMOOTHING SERUM — LIGHT WEIGHT~ STYLING

As well as imparting shine, smoothness and manageability to hair (it’s especially good after your gym shower), this light serum protects against heat damage too — plonk it next to your hairdryer and consider them a formidable duo from now on. We’re also impressed with the way in which this doesn’t cause locks to look limp with increased use, making it perfect for touch-ups throughout the day if hair is looking less presentable.

My hair had a shine to it after using, and felt a little smoother. The formula is easy to apply and the handy travel size bottle is great for touch-ups during the day, too!

BEST AFRO HAIR ENHANCER — PURE~FRO® MOISTURE SPRAY

Dry, brittle texture can blight afro hair so this hydrating mist is a miracle. Despite the rich, protein-packed formula that strengthens the hair’s internal structure, it never feels greasy or like it’s leaving a film behind. Best of all it’s versatile: use it on the go to add freshness or as a styling spray to create a glossy twist or blow out.

My hair felt super moisturised and was very manageable. I dare say that I was even a little sad when the bottle finished because it made my hair feel so good!
